To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for ARTistic Storage & Susan Winter.  Susan worked with us on the installation of additional compactor units (housing a total of 96 specimen cabinets, and a full carriage with Long-Span Oversize Shelving) Susan was extremely helpful throughout the entire process, and I have no reservations about recommending her services.
The bulk of the Field Museum fossil mammal collection is stored in a series of compactorized cabinets and oversize shelving that was fabricated by Montel and installed in the mid-1990's.  We recently received NSF funding that will allow us to integrate into the main collection a large number o unprocessed fossils that were collected in the Eocene of Wyoming.  The addition of these specimens required the installation of additional compactors, cabinets, and shelving on the existing compactor rails, and we hoped to replicate the design of the original equipment as closely as possible.
Susan worked closely with us throughout the design phase of the project, and did an excellent job of handling everything from tracking down the same paint colors as our existing equipment to helping with the design of custom cabinets that actually improved upon the design of our existing cabinets.  She was always very professional as we worked through various revisions of the designs, and helped to keep things on track with the manufacturers when internal delays at the museum arose.  her management of the shipping and installation of equipment also was great, and she quickly solved minor problems that arose when some needed parts were left out of the initial shipments.  Now that the equipment is installed, it looks great and operates very smoothly, and we'er already busy moving specimens into it.
In summery, Susan was an excellent partner for our project.  From the bidding stage all the way through tot the final installation, she was punctual, responsive, and professional, and she seemed sincerely interested in making sure that things were done right.  I recommend her highly, and would not hesitate to work with her in the future.

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:

As the oldest independent African American museum in the country, The DuSable Museum needed to update its collections storage area to provide superb housing for its remarkable collection. For a number of years the museum engaged in a process to obtain bids from several companies that have certified track records of supplying reliable collections storage shelving units. After a long review process, the Museum was pleased to choose and work with Artistic Storage.

Through its principal Susan Winter, Artistic Storage provided the Museum with a thoughtfully, thorough plan that was uniquely suited to our needs. Where other companies were reluctant to provide a design plan that fit the special complexities of our space, Susan enthusiastically met that challenge working with collections, curatorial and building staff to better understand our requirements. Every step of the process Artistic Storage was there to provide straight forward answers that not only spoke to the versatility of the Montel system, but integrity of the company and the products it represents.

The installation process was smooth and professional, and we are pleased with the results. Our entire collections’ department cannot wait to repopulate the storage area to see our holdings neatly situated in these user-friendly, durably attractive units.

We are pleased with our new units. We highly recommend Artistic Storage for your museum project. Should you require further insight into our project and its results, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:

History Colorado, formerly known as the Colorado Historical Society, had the opportunity to work with Artistic Storage as part of the construction of the new 195,000 square foot History Colorado Center. A key component of the new facility was the planning and installation of collections storage for both archival and artifact collections.

The level of personal attention and service we received from Artistic Storage was critical to the ultimate success of the project and to our ability to provide long term preservation and care for the objects we hold in trust for the people of Colorado.

Artistic Storage principal Susan Winter patiently, thoroughly, and thoughtfully reviewed each individual type of collection with the Collections Manager, Registrar and appropriate Curatorial Staff to determine the most effective and efficient method of storage. While collections preservation remained the foremost consideration, within our specified parameters Artistic Storage provided a range of options for storing different types of materials that allowed us to maximize our budget and ultimately purchase new storage furniture for the entire collection. From books to microfilm, photographs to textiles, manuscripts to maps, hanging garments, archaeological artifacts, paintings, sculptures, and much more, the careful review and collection-specific planning has afforded us the opportunity to provide a much higher level of care and far greater ease of access to collections in our new facility.

We are extremely pleased with our new Montel system and the personal involvement of Artistic Storage in every aspect of planning was key to the successful installation of our collection in the new facility.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at (303) 866-3688 if you have any questions or would like additional information.

Yours sincerely,

Elisa Phelps
Director of Collections and Library Division
